5 Summer Outfits for the Cool, Alternative Woman
I don’t know if it is because I am getting older but this heat in my town has been noticeably hotter than I am used to. I am getting hotter, faster than ever. However, will that stop me from wearing cool, black pieces of clothing? NO! I doubt the color is affecting me that much since I pair it with flowy and airy pieces. Who cares about the limiting belief in seasonal colors? Wear black all year long or wear yellow in December… wear what you want to!
Daring Prints
This bold leopard print skirt is one of my louder pieces. I usually stick to solid colors and stay away from prints but if I am going to gravitate towards any pattern, it will be some variation of this one. Look, I love this skirt and feel so cool in it! I am not a fan of shorts on me, so I will always opt for a skirt and dress, maxis mainly. I am a tallish woman at 5’7″, so finding clothing that is long enough can be hard.
To add some of my brand of style, I paired it with this t-shirt with skulls I got from Amazon.
Mini Skirt
I feel like I am channeling some cool, major 80s’ rock fashion here. A tight, basic black miniskirt is a new staple that I have incorporated into my wardrobe. It is so fun to build on with a baggy band tee for a balanced look. Then, I have more leopard print with this Def Leppard t-shirt*. I paired it with these cowboy-inspired ankle boots, just because I liked how it turned out.

Pretty in Pink.
OK, I was not sure if I wanted to post this one. I know I have some areas of my body that I do not love but this whole website is about embracing your true self. No hiding or feeling the need to blend in or act like somebody else. No photo editing (unless you want to do it, of course). Also, though I don’t own much pink, I like this dress*. I paired it with my Van’s because I wanted a casual look that was too girly, frilly without them.

Bold Colors
The complete opposite style from some other outfits here. I paired this gorgeous royal blue skater dress with my grommet-studded belt (of course) to try to add an edge to a pretty conservative outfit. Since this isn’t typical for me, I thought I would mix it up with this purchase. I am really trying to push myself with all colors, though black will always be my go-to. I also love these espadrilles! Rather than a wedge that is sky-high and uncomfortable, this pair is flat across like the sole a creeper-style shoe, so I can wear them without pain all day.
Pleated Skirt
Clearly, I like mixing trends and different pieces that don’t seem like they would work, such as an ultra-feminine piece liked a pleated skirt with another band tee. This one is a mugshot of Johnny Cash, so I wanted to have some fun with this outfit. As mentioned earlier, I don’t mind wearing black in the summer as long as it isn’t black sweats or winter clothing. Lastly, I added some black and cork basic wedges that again aren’t sky high, so they are super comfortable. They’re probably designed for old ladies, but I like them!
